Intervista con GRÁINNE MULVEY

Where were you born and educated?

I was born in Dublin, Ireland and educated in W.I.T., Trinity College Dublin, Queens University Belfast and obtained a D.Phil at the University Of York under the supervision of Professor Nicola LeFanu.

What kind of music do you compose and create?

I compose contemporary acoustic, electroacoustic and pure electronic music. I like to collaborate with other disciplines in the arts also.

Did you face any obstacles in your carrier ? What kind of obstacles?

Getting performances at the start of my career was difficult, since the resources were limited for young composers. However, the situation is more vibrant today and there are much more opportunities due to the increase in the amount of organisations and ensembles promoting performing and disseminating new contemporary work.

What do you think could be done to help women working in music business?

  1. More women on panels in institutions that make decisions about programming new music.
  2. More women in management of art institutions.
  3. More women composers programmed in concerts generally.
  4. More women allowed independent control in top academic posts.
